Established in 1973 Stony Creek Studio is situated at the junction of the Yarra River and Stony Creek in Warrandyte, Victoria, Australia.
Warrandyte has a long history of gold mining first discovered in 1851 and later for its famous artists’ colony of painters and potters.
Included in The Heidelberg Artists Trail, Warrandyte retains a rural village atmosphere. Penleigh Boyd painted on the banks of the Yarra River just upstream from Stony Creek Studio.

Stony Creek Studio incorporating Yellow Flower Studio and Balam Balam Studio is home to husband-and-wife team Walter Magilton and Denise Keele-bedford, who offer an exciting range of traditional and contemporary artwork.
Set amongst the natural eucalyptus bush the studios are open by appointment for those wishing to view the artists’ artwork. Send us a message on the Contact Form.
Walter is a member and Denise a co-founder, of Warrandyte Artisans Inc. a collaborative group showcasing studio artworks by local artists at monthly Pop-up Exhibitions in Warrandyte.
The recently renovated Balam Balam Studio (Wurundjeri language for Butterfly) is a quaint hand-built studio, formerly a ceramic studio. Today it is a retail showcase, featuring a variety of Denise’s artworks. A highlight of the studio is a butterfly installation by Liliana Barbieri.
We thank Genevieve and Isobel Magilton for designing and creating a stunning mural at Stony Creek Studio. A detail section of Birdsong by the Bend is featured on the Homepage.
The Stony Creek Studio complex acknowledges the land on which it is sited as being home to the traditional Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people. We give homage to those past, present, and emerging who have created, are creating and will create in and around this place.
