For fifteen years my Yellow Flower Studio in Beijing China was a place where everything was possible. Creative production, was just one aspect of the experience. Meeting and engaging with Chinese and International artists opened opportunities to curate exhibitions, travel to never thought of Chinese destinations for exhibitions, residencies, demonstrations and installations.
These are the hands of a Chinese working artist, Sun Baijun, who stepped out of traditional artmaking and was a panacea to guide and encourage me, while in China to let go of restraints, anxiety and fears.
I learnt to value my personal sense of power over my art practise, although every journey was challenging. I learnt to allow a greater energy than mine to teach me how to flow with the rhythm of life. I felt courageous in stepping out into the unknown to be embraced by others who acknowledged my difference and invited me to delve into Chinese contemporary art culture and then to present and demonstrate my artistic concepts.
In Melbourne Cure-all was created in response to my experiences, where words, spoken or written have the power to encourage personal growth.
